Upcoming Events
CO Firefighting Local Assistance Roundtables
You are invited to participate in upcoming regional roundtable sessions hosted by the COFIRE Subcommittee of the Colorado Fire Commission.
These sessions are part of a statewide effort to better understand current challenges facing Colorado fire and EMS agencies and to refine potential long-term solutions:
June 12, 10am -12pm, Palisade Fire Protection District Station
June 13, 9am-11am, Eastern Fire Chiefs Meeting, Limon Area Fire Protection District
RSVP: tjs@elizabethfire.org
June 27, 10am -12pm, Salida Fire Department
RSVP: hferchau@gunnisonco.gov
July 8, 5:30-7:30pm, on Zoom
We encourage participation from fire service personnel, sheriffs’ offices, emergency managers, and community members.
An executive summary of the Subcommittee’s draft proposals is attached. For context, key areas of focus include:
Workforce challenges (recruitment, retention, and training)
Resource and equipment needs (apparatus, facilities, and funding)
System coordination (mutual aid and long-term service sustainability)
Some questions we will discuss include:
Outside of funding, what is your #1 priority need (administration, operations, personnel, etc.)?
What would ideal state support for your fire department look like?
What parts of this proposal feel workable, and what parts don't fit your reality?
What’s missing that would make the biggest difference for your agency?
Are there specific examples from your area that help illustrate these issues?
The goal of the roundtables is to gather input—not present final decisions—and to make sure that any solutions we identify match the needs of firefighters. Your perspective is important and we hope you can attend! Please RSVP to the emails listed above. For comments or questions, email fire_commission@state.co.us.

Taking Care of Our Own: West Metro & NFFF
A fire department does not know when it will have a line-ofduty death or serious injury. Does it have a plan in place? Are personnel records current? Does the department know how to make timely and proper notification to the survivors? Fire chiefs and survivors tell us that most fire departments are not prepared for a line-of-duty death. Taking Care of Our Own® provides fire department personnel specific information and valuable insights.

Leadership Presence: How You Show Up Every Day
Leadership Presence: How You Show Up Every Day (virtual)
Leadership presence isn’t about polish—it’s about influence. It’s how people experience you in the station, in meetings, and on calls. In this session, Eric Savickas explores how presence shapes trust, clarity, and confidence across every level of leadership in the fire service.
Participants will learn how to strengthen their professional presence using the See / Hear / Feel framework, recognize language that undermines credibility, and deliver messages with ownership—even when decisions aren’t their own.
Expect a practical, real-world look at how leaders can show up with purpose and consistency—in conversations, across shifts, and in every moment that defines crew culture.
About Eric: Eric Savickas is the Founder of Convergent Impact and a retired U.S. Army officer who partners with fire departments to develop confident, mission-driven leaders.
This session will be held virtually at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26th. Click on the link below to register. Remember that registrations do not carry over from one session to another, so you will have to register for each session separately.

Serving Heroes Level 4 Chaplain and Peer Support Training
This class is open to everyone who has a heart to serve and minister to First Responders! You do NOT have to currently be a Chaplain/Peer Support to attend.
Learn how to effectively serve our Fire/EMS/Military/Police first responders. Peer Support, Chaplains, church leaders, non-profit volunteers, counselors, Hospice personnel, and anyone who has a heart for first responders can be used to support these warriors. Peer Support/Chaplains provide a vital service to our heroes. Not only do they provide care, compassion and concern for first responders, but they also bring comfort to those who have been displaced by disaster or victimized by crime.
However, WHO TRAINS THE PEER SUPPORT/CHAPLAINS? Often well-intentioned people who want to serve as chaplains must learn through the school of hard knocks. The realities that are faced daily by police officers, firefighters, military personnel and paramedics differ significantly from the routines that many other people face. This Level 4 training will equip each student with practical tips, tools, and techniques to support and serve first responders!
